Welcome to Alpha Phi - Chi Chapter
Located at the University of Montana in beautiful
Missoula, MT.
Chi Chapter has been a part of the University of Montana campus since 1918. In that time young women have joined in an effort to create lifelong friendships, become more involved in their community, and contribute to both local and national philanthropic organizations. The image of sororities has changed over the years but the principles remain the same; leadership, scholarship, friendship, sisterhood, and growth.
Chi Chapter women believe that the old saying "friends by chance, sisters by choice" is one of the best examples of what sorority life is about.
Community Involvement
During 2008-2009 Chi Chapter participated in/hosted the following events:
- Annual Haunted Phi House
- Donations to Goodwill of clothing and electronics
- Canned Food Drive for Missoula Food Bank
- Several Blood Drives
- University Area Leaf Raking
- Arbor Day
- The St Patrick's House Fundraiser
Scholarship and Leadership
Chi Chapter provides scholarship help by matching younger women with older women in the same major, providing study tables and hours, limiting social activity participation for women not meeting a minimum GPA, and by encouraging mentorship from alumni and community members. Each semester the chapter must meet a minimum number of programming hours of scholarship and developmental lectures and programs. These lectures are conducted by members of the sorority, the university and the local community. The women are encouraged to participate in workshops put on by the university about self-defense, study skills, interviewing, and leadership.
Chi Chapter has an organizational structure that encourages participation and leadership of even its most junior members. The structure includes a president and several vice presidents. Each vice president has her own department that is responsible for a certain portion of the organization. The Executive Council which is made up of the president, vice presidents and several key members meet weekly with alumni advisors and the house director to discuss any problems and set the schedule for upcoming events.
Chapter leaders serve for one year in an elected position and elections take place each year before Christmas break. The members of Executive Council then participate in a regional conference and training session in Feb/Mar of their first semester in office.
